The BUL Armory Holster Guide: EDC, TAC and Ultralight

BUL Armory pistols are showing up on more belts every month. We see it in our own orders: BUL Armory holster orders at KSG more than doubled from spring to late summer, and October is already on pace to beat September.

That makes sense. BUL builds the SAS II, a double-stack 2011-style 9mm, on an aluminum frame that keeps the EDC Compact around 26 ounces unloaded. You get a 2011 trigger and 16 to 18 rounds in a pistol you can actually carry all day.

The problem is the holster. Most big holster makers don’t cut a mold for BUL, or they offer one generic fit for a single barrel length. If you carry a BUL Armory pistol, you need a holster molded for its frame and safeties, with a tall sight channel that clears your optic. That’s what this guide covers.

Which BUL Armory pistols we make holsters for

We mold two BUL Armory fits. Pick the one that matches your barrel length. Grip size doesn’t change the holster, so a compact grip and a full-size grip on the same slide use the same fit.

BUL Armory model Barrel Grip KSG fit to choose
EDC 4.25″ bull Full size BUL Armory EDC / EDC Compact / TAC (incl. Pro) 4.25″
EDC Compact 4.25″ bull Compact BUL Armory EDC / EDC Compact / TAC (incl. Pro) 4.25″
EDC Pro 4.25″ V8 ported Full size BUL Armory EDC / EDC Compact / TAC (incl. Pro) 4.25″
EDC Pro Compact (incl. Nightwood Guns edition) 4.25″ V8 ported Compact BUL Armory EDC / EDC Compact / TAC (incl. Pro) 4.25″
TAC 4.25″ 4.25″ Full size BUL Armory EDC / EDC Compact / TAC (incl. Pro) 4.25″
TAC Pro 4.25″ 4.25″ ported Full size BUL Armory EDC / EDC Compact / TAC (incl. Pro) 4.25″
Ultralight 3.25″ fluted Compact BUL Armory Ultralight (incl. Pro) 3.25″
Ultralight Pro 3.25″ Compact BUL Armory Ultralight (incl. Pro) 3.25″

BUL Armory EDC holster. The EDC family is BUL’s carry 2011 and the most common BUL pistol we see. All four versions share a 4.25″ slide on an aluminum frame, so they share one holster mold. The Pro models add a ported barrel, which doesn’t change the fit.

BUL Armory TAC holster. The TAC and TAC Pro in the 4.25″ length use the same holster as the EDC. If you carry a 5″ TAC, TAC Comp or a 5″ EDC, contact us before ordering.

BUL Armory Ultralight holster. The Ultralight is BUL’s smallest SAS II: a 3.25″ barrel, compact grip and about 22 ounces unloaded. It gets its own shorter mold, which keeps the holster from adding length you don’t need.

Red dots. Every BUL in this lineup is optic-ready through BUL’s BAO plate system (RMR, DPP, Holosun K and RMSc footprints). Our holsters are cut to clear the optic, mounted now or added later, and the tall sight channel clears most suppressor-height sights.

Appendix or strong side: setting up a BUL Armory IWB holster

Our BUL Armory holster is the Lexington, an inside-the-waistband Kydex holster built to carry appendix (AIWB) or strong side (3:00 to 4:30). It’s ambidextrous by design, and we install the hardware for your hand.

A double-stack 2011 is longer and heavier in the grip than most striker carry guns. A few options make a real difference:

  • Extend the length. Choose “Extend it!” for AIWB length. The extra Kydex below the muzzle stops the grip from tipping out and spreads pressure across your body. We can trim it shorter later. We can’t add it back.
  • Add a wedge. A foam wedge tilts the grip into your body at appendix. With a full-size BUL grip, most people want one. The short angled wedge is the place to start.
  • Keep the ModWing. The belt claw rotates the grip in to stop printing. The ModWing ships standard. The RCS VG Claw gives more rotation for a full-size grip (right hand only).
  • Pick your belt attachment. The DCC Monoblock works for most AIWB carriers. Two slotted DCC clips spread the load wider and help with the heavier full-grip models. Canted DCC clips or soft loops are the better pick for strong-side IWB.
  • Full-height sweatguard. BUL pistols have extended ambidextrous safeties. If the body-side safety rubs when you carry, the full-height sweatguard adds a layer between it and you.

Not sure? Choose the Standard Configuration. It’s our recommended setup for most carriers: mid-height sweatguard, extended length, DCC Monoblock, ModWing and a short angled wedge.

Carrying with a weapon light? We don’t offer a light-bearing BUL Armory fit yet. Tell us which light you run, because requests drive which molds we make next.

Why a custom Kydex holster for a BUL Armory 2011

A $2,000 pistol deserves better than a one-size-fits-many shell. Every KSG holster is made to order in Sheridan, Colorado:

  • Molded to the gun. Vacuum-formed on CNC molds for your exact BUL model, so retention is consistent and adjustable.
  • Thicker material. .080″ Boltaron or Kydex, about 25% thicker than the industry norm. Boltaron holds its shape in a hot truck and resists cracking in the cold.
  • Full trigger guard coverage, with an open bottom so debris falls out. Running a threaded barrel? Pick “Yes” and we guarantee the bottom is fully open.
  • Your colors. 13 colors, from black and coyote brown to carbon fiber.
  • PHLster Enigma compatible, if you carry without a belt.
  • 60-day satisfaction guarantee. If you don’t love it, send it back.

Because every holster is built after you order, check our current lead time before you buy. You can track your place in line on the order status page.

BUL Armory holster FAQ

Does a BUL Armory EDC holster fit the EDC Compact?

Yes. The EDC and EDC Compact share a 4.25″ slide and frame. Only the grip differs, and the grip sits above the holster. One KSG fit covers EDC, EDC Compact, EDC Pro and EDC Pro Compact.

Will a BUL Armory TAC holster fit my EDC?

Yes, for the 4.25″ models. The TAC 4.25″, TAC Pro 4.25″ and the whole EDC line use the same KSG fit. For a 5″ TAC or EDC, contact us before ordering.

Do you make a BUL Armory Ultralight holster?

Yes. The Ultralight and Ultralight Pro have their own 3.25″ fit, so the holster isn’t longer than the gun needs.

Will the holster work with a red dot on my BUL?

Yes. The holster is cut to clear optics on BUL’s BAO plate system, including RMR, DPP, Holosun K and RMSc footprints, with a tall sight channel for suppressor-height sights.

Can I carry my BUL Armory appendix?

Yes. The Lexington is built for AIWB. For a 2011-length grip, choose the extended length and add a wedge. The Standard Configuration sets this up for you.

Is there a BUL Armory OWB holster?

Not yet. Our BUL fits are IWB and AIWB in the Lexington. Let us know if you want an OWB fit.

Does it fit a BUL with a weapon light?

Not yet. Current BUL fits are for the pistol without a light.

How long does a custom BUL holster take?

Each holster is made to order. See our lead time page for the current wait.
